Episode 9 Notes:

Who was James R. Jordan SR.

James was born in Wallace, North Carolina on July 31, 1936. He met Deloris Peoples while attending Charity High School. They stayed together for the next three years. James joined the Air Force and was stationed in San Antonio, Texas. He transferred to a base in Virginia in 1956 and married Deloris. They had a son , James Ronald “Ronnie” Jr that next year. James Sr. left the Air Force and went to work in a textile mill. The Jordans had two more children Deloris and Larry during this time. In 1963, James and Deloris left their children with James’ mother and moved to Brooklyn so James Sr, could receive mechanic’s training on the GI Bill. He studied airplane hydraulics while Deloris worked at a bank. Michael Jordan was born during this time in Brooklyn. They moved back to North Carolina and reunited the family. James finished his 18 months of training and moved his family to Wilmington, North Carolina. Rosyln, their fifth child, was born.

James first love was baseballl and had gone semi-pro himself. Michael in numerous interviews spoke about how his father wanted him to be a baseball star. It was the first sport James had taught Michael to play. He followed his son around the country as his fame grew. In fact, Michael spoke about his father as his closest confidant. When his father was identified, Michael Jordan quit basketball two months later, and went into baseball. Like his father always wanted.

A quote from Michael Jordan in March 1996. “I think about him every day. I’m pretty sure I always will. Every day of my life.”

So what exactly happened to James Jordan.

Two teenagers were convicted of his murder: Daniel Green and Larry Demery. They both got life sentences for first degree murder. But there’s a story to this and Daniel Green has kept insisting he never shot James Jordan. That he only helped get rid of his body. But first what exactly happened on the night of July 22nd. James Jordan’s body was found draped over a tree limb in McColl, NC swamp. He was shot in the chest with a 38 caliber and his body had been there for 11 days and was badly decomposed to the point where it was hard to tell whether the body was man or woman. His car was found broken down for parts. There are pieces and parts we do know but even to this day 30 years later there are questions. And Daniel Green is still appealing his case and his lawyer has uncovered misdeeds in the police department. There are lots of questions.
