Episode 10 Notes:
This is the wild story of the disappearance and then reappearance and subsequent prosecution of Sherri Papini. For this case, we’re going to start with the initial crime.
Around 5:50pm Keith Papini came home from work on November 2, 2016 and found his wife and kids missing from their home in the Mountain gate area of Shasta County near Redding California. This is in Northern California.
He called the daycare where his kids were and found out they had never been picked up by his 34 year old wife Sherri Papini. He checked his “find my iPhone” app and located Sherri’s iPhone. He went there and found an iPhone and earbuds with blond hairs entangled in them at the south corner of Sunrise Drive and Old Oregon Trail, about two feet off the road. Keith thought that the iPhone was placed were it lay which he found weird.
Sherri was last seen running on Sunrise Drive and was believed to have gone missing between 10am -12pm. The sheriff’s department detectives did a walkthrough through the Papini home and found no sign of a struggle or anything missing. Sherri’s purse and jewelry were accounted but when questioned Keith had no idea if there had been any unusual banking activity in Sherri’s bank accounts.
The detectives did several follow up interviews with Keith about the state of their marriage and he stated they didn’t have any but occasionally fought like other married couples. The last fight they had was in October over a messy room. Keith did say that Sherri could get loud when she got angry and knew how to push Keith’s buttons.
While this was happening, things went haywire in the case.
